Egypt passes 100% mobile penetration

Egypt ended November 2011 with a total 81.70 million mobile subscribers, up from 80.98 million in October and 66.87 million in November 2010, according to figures from the communications ministry. Mobile penetration passed 100 percent in October and reached 100.79 percent of the population in November. The number of internet users fell to 26.27 million in November from 27.75 million the previous month. That includes 1.75 million ADSL subscribers and 2.60 million USB modem subscribers, as well as an estimated 8.09 million mobile internet users. Internet penetration was at 32.41 percent in November, versus 28.94 a year earlier, while household penetration rose over the same period to 36.44 percent from 31.44 percent. The ministry said the country's international bandwidth increased in the year from 112.32Gbps to 184.38Gbps. The number of fixed-line subscribers fell to 8.64 million in November from 9.01 million in October and 9.59 million a year earlier.
