Ericsson-LG hit 26.3 Gbps download speed in 5G radio testbed

Ericsson-LG has demonstrated a 5G network technology in South Korea. The 5G network equipment used for the demo provided a peak download speed of 26 Gbps, The Korea Herald reports, citing Patrick Johansson, CEO of Ericsson-LG. The demonstration was held at the Anyang R&D center. Ericsson-LG is a joint venture founded by Swedish network equipment maker Ericsson and electronics producer LG Electronics in July 2010 in Seoul. Ericsson holds a 75 percent stake, and LGE owns the remaining 25 percent stake in the company.

According to Johansson, Ericsson-LG plans to cooperate with Korean telecom firms to further promote the use of 5G network technologies. Ericsson-LG is currently preparing to deploy 5G network systems for KT and SK Telecom. Its 5G network systems are expected to be deployed for trial 5G services during the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Also on 12 May, Ericsson-LG showcased 5G beam tracking technology designed to enable network systems to track and send signals for certain mobile devices. The company’s network systems can send telecom signals to a specific unmanned vehicle driving on the road and help the car communicate with users or other cars in real time.

Based on multiple-user multi-input and multi-output technology, the 5G beam tracking service allows the transmission of sizeable data, such as those for virtual reality, hologram, and UHD videos, the company also said.
