MVNO FreedomPop said it's raised another USD 50 million in financing, bringing its total funding to over USD 109 million. The new funding will be used to accelerate its international expansion in markets in Europe, Asia and South America, including the launch of its new Global hotspot and SIM. Started in the US, FreedomPop launched in its first foreign market last year, the UK, and claims over 1 million customers.
The Global hotspot is available to US and UK users roaming in 25 countries across Europe and the US. It comes with 200 MB per month of free data roaming in the countries, and users can buy additional data at a cost of USD 10 for 500 MB. FreedomPop said it plans to expand coverage to over 40 countries by year-end, including parts of Asia and Latin America. The Global hotspot is available for a special launch price of USD 49.99, and the SIM will be sold for USD 10 on FreedomPop's website.
