French politicians ask for 'sorry' tweets in defamation suit

Wednesday 2 May 2012 | 11:18 CET | News
French politicians Jean-Francois Cope and Nathalie Koscuisko-Morizet have filed defamation suits against Twitter user Baptiste Fluzin, also known only as @soymalau, Le Lab reports. The two major figures in the ruling UMP centre-right party are seeking the novel punishment of forcing @soymalau to say he's sorry in 466 tweets. They are also seeking court costs and a symbolic EUR 1 in damages. If found guilty, Fluzin must send the 466 tweets within a month of the court decision or he will be fined EUR 100 per unsent message, or EUR 46,000 if he refuses to follow the court order. PC Inpact writes that at a rate of one tweet a minute, it would take him about 8 hours to complete the punishment.
