Gambian operator Gamtel is currently working on the proposal to expand the 3G network in the Greater Banjul Area and other major towns in the country. Works, Construction and Infrastructure Minister Njogu Bah said plans are underway to install the 3G network machine at Soma Gamtel Station, so that customers within the satellite villages can have access to 3G internet services. According to The Daily Observer, the minister said that since 1998, internet service provision has been one of the key areas that Gamtel had embarked on to meet its customers' demands. Bah recalled that in 2010 the management surveyed, designed and rolled out a 3G internet service with coverage restricted to the Greater Banjul Area as the first phase of the project. He explained that Gamtel, in collaboration with the supplier, is currently working on the proposal to expand the network in the Greater Banjul Area (which is currently saturated because of the affordable pricing structure), and the main towns in the country including Soma, Farafenni, Bansang and Basse.
