Genband acquires fring's OTT mobile IP service

Genband said it has acquired fring, an over-the-top (OTT) mobile IP communications service. The service, which works across all major smartphone platforms, will expand Genband's cloud portfolio for the consumer market and enable service providers and MVNOs to compete with OTT solutions. Genband CEO David Walsh said the company will pair fring's OTT system with its own cloud and WebRTC offerings. No financial details were provided. Sources familiar with the matter told Israeli paper Globes that the acquisition was worth around USD 50 million. Fring is based in Tel Aviv.
