HKBN, TVB to launch OTT, home broadband services bundle

Hong Kong fiber network operator HKBN has signed a memorandum of understanding with TVB.com (TVB) to introduce bundled services. The joint offering will combine HKBN’s home broadband service with TVB’s soon-to-be launched OTT content platform dubbed ‘myTV Super’. Customers will soon be able to access entertainment programmes from MyTV Super delivered over HKBN’s fibre-optic network at home and on-the-go via a mobile app.

myTV SUPER is TVB’s new OTT content service platform which offers entertainment from Hong Kong-based content producer TVB, as well as other programmes for general audiences and children from its global partners. Customers will also be able to take up a free trial of myTV Super on the big screen at home, or anywhere via their mobile devices.

Pricing and availability details related to the bundle and the free trial offer will be announced in early March.

Hong Kong fiber network operator HKBN reported its unaudited consolidated results for the six months ended 29 February 2016. Revenue increased by 9 percent year-on-year to HKD 1.2 billion, while EBITDA rose 6 percent year-on-year to HKD 511 million in the 6-month period.

HKBN buys New World's telecoms, online marketing business

Hong Kong fiber network operator HKBN and its indirect subsidiary HKBN Group (HKBNGL) have signed a share purchase agreement with New World Development Company and its direct subsidiary New World Telephone Holdings (NWTHL). HKBNGL has conditionally agreed to acquire the telecommunications and online marketing services businesses owned by New World Telephone.

3 Hong Kong to offer free data SIMs with myTV access

3 Hong Kong, the mobile communications division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong, will offer free 'myTV Super' 5GB data SIM cards at 3Shops and other designated outlets starting mid-March. The card enables mobile users to watch Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) programmes from 30 thematic TV channels for 30 days via the new myTV Super paid mobile app.
