The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) is examining successful international broadcasting migrations from analogue to digital terrestrial television (DTT), Engineering News reported online. The aim is to bring South Africa's analogue broadcasting regulatory frameworks into line with the digital era. Icasa's DTT regulations are due to be ready by March. Icasa is hosting the International Conference on the Review of Existing Broadcasting Regulatory Frameworks and plans to learn lessons from places such as Australia, Canada and the Isle of Man, Engineering News said. Icasa intends public consultations on the issue to enable it to regulate in the public's interest and promote the development of public, commercial and community broadcasting services.
