Satellite-based IP communications specialist VT iDirect (iDirect), part of Vision Technologies Systems, said it conducted lab tests with SpeedCast International, a global network and satellite communications service provider, and that the two demonstrated GTP/LTE traffic being transmitted over a single iDirect SatHaul terminal at speeds over 350Mbps on the downstream and 90Mbps on the upstream.
IDirect said the proof-of-concept would help SpeedCast achieve a leading position in cellular backhaul provisioning and help mobile operators extend the reach of their services via satellite connectivity.
iDirect VP of Global Sales Kevin Steen said the test results provide convincing evidence that the company’s DVB-S2X strategy will position its customers to stay ahead of the competition as the market for LTE service explodes and throughput becomes the litmus test for securing market opportunities.
