KPN to launch new mobile internet pricing in Sept
Tuesday 19 July 2011 | 09:30 CET |
News
Dutch operator KPN will introduce new mobile internet plans from 5 September, aimed at smartphone users. While the use of mobile data will get more expensive, the operator held off on introducing extra charges for applications such as VoIP and chat, after the Dutch parliament passed net neutrality legislation in response to the incumbent's earlier proposals. KPN will offer similar plans at its youth brand Hi as well, while the Telfort brand will start new pricing in early 2012. KPN said it will also limit subsidies for handsets. With smartphones making handsets more expensive, customers will be expected to pay more the equipment. KPN consulted consumers and other stakeholders before developing the new subscriptions, and the operator said consumers appear to understand the structure and find elements of the proposition positive. With subscriptions from EUR 45 per month, KPN customers will get extra services, such as a free loan handset, premium help desk and proactive subscription advice. Hi customers who choose the premium Hi Messaging plan will get fast internet, twice as many MB and unlimited SMS.
