MTS to test LTE in Uzbekistan

Mobile operator MTS Uzbekistan plans to test LTE technology. The operator said it has already received a licence for construction of a LTE technology-based network in Uzbekistan. A pilot LTE area will be set up n Tashkent in 2010-2012, and MTS Uzbekistan has already concluded an agreement on equipment from Huawei Technologies. The operator has already invested USD 12 million in development of its 3G network in the country, which is operational in five major cities (Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand, Urgench and Khiva) covering more than 12 percent of the population of the country.
