New Zealand's Semble launches contactless mobile wallet

Semble, a joint collaboration between major banks and all operators in New Zealand, launched its first mobile wallet for making contactless payments. Semble serves as the aggregator for banks and service providers and is a collaboration between Paymark, 2degrees, Spark and Vodafone. Semble is a smartphone app that lets end-users pay for things on their phone using secure, digital versions of end-users' credit and debit cards stored on their phone.

To accept payments via Semble, merchants need to have a contactless EFTPOS terminal with the contactless feature enabled. At Smartpay, EFTPOS terminals feature this and this means merchants are covered if they have a contactless PAX terminal. To use Semble, consumers hold their smartphone over any contactless terminal, wait for the ‘accepted’ notification on the terminal and the transaction is complete.
