Nextel launches 4G network in Rio de Janeiro
Nextel Brasil has activated its 4G network in Rio de Janeiro. The state capital is the first city to receive the new technology by the operator. Some 300 antennas were installed covering 19 Rio neighborhoods and operating on the 1800 MHz frequency band.

The company has created a specific plan for those who want to use the 4G network. The package costs BRL 129.99 and includes 4 GB of data traffic, 400 minutes for calls to other fixed and mobile operators, and unlimited calls and SMS to Nextel numbers.

Nextel's portfolio of 4G handsets includes the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia SP and iPhone 5S and 5C. For the last two, Apple has approved the operator's 4G network and will allow access to Nextel subscribers with the next update of iOS. Also, coming soon are new Motorola models compatible with 4G, such as the Moto G and Moto X.
