Norway PT sets rules for 800 MHz band offshore auction

Norwegian postal and telecoms regulator PT said it has set the rules for the auction of six blocks of spectrum in the 800 MHz band for offshore use on 18 August. It will allocate 2 x 30 MHz in the bands 791–821 MHz and 832–862 MHz. There will be a frequency ceiling of 2 x 20 MHz, in spite of calls in the consultation to scrap this cap. This means each bidder can bid for up to four blocks. PT is going ahead with the sealed bids method, rejecting arguments received in the consultation against this mode. PT said this method is a simple one to use. It also received arguments calling for a third party to monitor the selection of the winner and the price calculations, but PT said the simplicity of the auction made this unnecessary. The consultation period finished on 23 May.
