The two regional units of Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) will lower fees for fibre customers in single-family homes. NTT East and NTT West will cut prices by around 30 percent to JPY 3,600 for a two-year contract. Furthermore, apartment customers, who now pay between JPY 3,000 and 5,000 will pay a flat monthly rate of around JPY 2,800 on two-year contracts, The Nikkei reports. NTT East and NTT West expect a combined net increase of about 1.3 million fibre subscribers this fiscal year, compared with around 1.5 million in fiscal 2011, as more and more internet users choose mobile technologies to access the internet.
