Nuance sues Zi over Tegic case

Thursday 21 August 2008 | 08:47 CET | News
Mobile software developer Zi announced that it received notice from Nuance Communications of a motion filed against Zi in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The motion accuses Zi of violating a 2002 consent judgment which settled a patent litigation with Tegic Communications, involving Zi's eZiText software. Tegic was recently acquired by Nuance. In a statement, Zi accused Nuance of filing the suit as part of its attempt to acquire Zi. The company recently rejected a takeover bid from Nuance and refused to start negotiations. "The timing of this motion is highly suspicious and is an unnecessary legal tactic by Nuance," said Milos Djokovic, CEO of Zi. The company said the motion is "without merit" and it will mount a defense.
