French cable operator Numericable has added an up to 5 Mbps broadband connection to its connected Premium TV service, costing EUR 19 a month plus the STB rental fee for the first year and EUR 27.90 thereafter. The higher-tier Gold TV package costs EUR 39 a month for one year, then EUR 47.90. Users can access the internet directly on TV or on a computer. Numericable's connected TV system uses software developed in-house and a modem built into the STB. It takes up a number of interactive services already available from the operator, including Dailymotion videos, electronic programme guide, HD content search by theme and category, film search by actor or title, VoD catalogue, and video and photo storage. Furthermore, Numericable is offering customers who sign up by the end of September to one of its connected TV packages an unlimited mobile plan free of charge until the end of the year. The mobile plan, which normally costs EUR 24.90 a month and has no contract tie-in period, includes unlimited calls to fixed and mobile numbers in France, unlimited SMS in France, unlimited mobile internet and allows customers to keep their own handset. Both the Premium and Gold TV packages also come with a film pass until the end of the year. Numericable states that its cable network currently passes around 10 million homes.
