Oi selects Alcatel-Lucent, Microsoft as IPTV partners

Brazilian operator Oi announced that Alcatel-Lucent has been selected as integrator of IPTV services for its deployment of Microsoft's Mediaroom platform. Oi has identified market demand for the service in 20 cities in all regions of the country, as well as Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, as previously announced. The IPTV service should launch in the second half of 2012. As part of the initiative, Oi is investing to deploy a new fibre network that will connect the homes of clients and provide access to high-speed internet and fixed telephony. The IPTV service will enable users to access content on tablets, smartphones and PCs.
