Poland has reached 2 million registered .pl domains, according to statistical data from the Polish registry maintained by Polish operator NASK. While the number of registered .pl domain names has doubled over the past two years, in 2010 alone, new registrations and subscription renewals exceeded 1 million. Such growth in the number of .pl domain names (nearly 23 percent in 2010) ranks Poland first among all European Union domain registers. Twenty years after its connection to the internet, Poland ranks fifth in terms of the number of domains registered in Europe. It took Poland 17 years to register one million internet domain names, while the increase by another million required as little as two years. According to data by the Central Statistical Office, 65.5 percent of all Polish businesses had their own website in 2010 (compared to only 53.2 percent in 2007), while access to the internet was available to 63.4 percent households (41 percent in 2007).
