US-based wireless telecommunications research and development company and fabless chip supplier Qualcomm announced organisational changes. Global Business Operations (GBO), previously referred to as Global Business Development, will be led by Jing Wang as executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Global Business Operations. The GBO organisation will include all of Qualcomm's international business-focused offices, including those in China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and Southeast Asia. This organisation will continue to focus on enhancing the business environment to support the continued growth of Qualcomm's technologies and products. A new organisation called Global Market Development (GMD) will be led by Peggy Johnson, as executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Global Market Development. The GMD team will lead the process for commercialising new business opportunities that reside outside of an existing Qualcomm business unit. This involves formalising a structure to assess the value of new ideas through strategic review and business modeling, developing a commercialisation plan, negotiating agreements and contracts with partners and determining the ideal long-term placement for the new business as it grows. The team will lead this effort across Qualcomm's R&D groups, coordinating cross-functionally with the business units and the GBO organisation. Both Wang and Johnson will continue to report to Steve Altman, president of Qualcomm.
