Italian public broadcaster RAI, following a confrontation on 21 February with the Ministry of Economic Development, said it has never asked for licence fees merely for possessing a PC connected to the internet, or for tablets and smartphones. In a statement issued by the press office, RAI said that the recent letter sent by the Directorate of Subscriptions applies only to a special fee due from companies and organisations where computers are used as TV sets, if those companies have not already paid for a licence for using TVs in their possession.
