Romtelecom, Cosmote win national broadband network contract

Romania's Ministry of Communications and Information Society of Romania (MSRI) awarded Romtelecom and Cosmote Romania a contract for the construction of the national Ro-Net telecommunications network for disadvantaged areas, writes Wall-Street.ro. The contract is worth RON 365.8 million (VAT included). Two other consortia took part in the tender organised by MSRI, namely Direct One-Electrogrup and UPC Romania-Deloitte Audit-Connection Consulting. The operators' partner in the project is Chinese telecom equipment provider Huawei.

Romtelecom will provide the projection, construction and operation of the broadband communication infrastructure of the Ro-net project in the 1, 2, 3 regions for an amount of RON 156.7 million. Cosmote Romania will provide the same work for the 4, 5, 6 and 7 regions for RON 209.1 million, according to news agency Mediafax.

The Ro-Net project will bring the national communication infrastructure to disadvantages areas in 35 counties. Completion of the network is expected in 2015. The two operator concessions for Ro-Net run for 18 years, after which the network can be acquired by the operators.
