Satellite accounts for most paid-for TV, radio in Slovakia

Slovak regulator TUSR has submitted data on the number of paid-for TV and radio connections as of 30 June 2011 to the European Commission. It found that 52 percent of subscribers, or 800,812, were using satellite connections (DVB-S) . The second largest share of subscribers, at 38 percent or 591,680 subscribers, had a cable distribution connection, of which 143,489 were active digital (DVB-C) connections. IPTV accounted for 102,990 active connections and MMDS accounted for 49,615 active connections. Besides these, 331,277 GSM/UMTS subscribers activated mobile TV via an internet connection at least once during the period being surveyed.
