Friday 10 February 2012 | 15:12 CET | News
The Serbian government formed a working group to define the project for the construction of a national broadband internet network, headed by Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, according to the Official Gazette. The Working Group should establish the regulatory requirements that will ensure sustainability for the development of the project. According to the director of Serbia's telecommunications regulator Ratel, Milan Jankovic, if the use of broadband services increases by 10 percent, it could bring GDP growth of 1.4 percent in Serbia. The national broadband network will be built from existing internet networks owned by public companies and especially the fibre-optic network of power company EPS, which is currently under-utilized.
