SFR backs VeryLife m-health project in Nice
Friday 23 April 2010 | 10:51 CET |
News
French mobile and broadband operator SFR has announced the winner of the "SFR Jeunes Talents Innovation" contest for the city of Nice, VeryLife. SFR chose three winners for the second round of the annual city-based mobile innovation contest last month, but withheld the chosen project for Nice, pending technical verification. VeryLife uses a combination of technologies (mobile biosensors, data over 3G, remote data processing, etc.) to allow users to follow their health in real time. Miniature biosensors placed on the subject's chest serve to measure temperature, heart and respiratory rhythm, and stress levels. The devices communicate via Bluetooth with a smartphone which connects to a data processing server over the 3G network. The user can view and follow this information on the smartphone. Medical staff monitoring patients with chronic illnesses can also access the data. The project will be deployed within the next few months in partnership with Nice University hospital and the Nice Cote d'Azur metropolitan authority. The project was developed by two biotech professionals, Gerard Lipowski and Vincent Coent.
