SK Telecom gains subscribers on iPhone 5 launch

Mobile carrier SK Telecom saw its subscriber base sharply rise on the first day that Apple's iPhone 5 made its debut in Korea, reports the Yonhap News Agency citing industry data. SK Telecom and KT kicked off the release of the iPhone, which runs on LTE networks in Korea. SK Telecom lured a net 9,555 new subscribers while its rivals KT and LG Uplus saw the net number of subscribers decline by some 8,400 and 1,100, respectively, according to industry data. LG Uplus was not designated as a local mobile carrier for the iPhone 5.
