SoftBank to launch mobile security app with Zimperium

Japanese operator SoftBank has signed a partnership agreement with US-based security and technology specialist Zimperium. Under the terms of the deal, SoftBank will offer AI-powered security services developed by Zimperium for mobile devices in Japan. Starting 15 November, SoftBank will launch ‘Security Checker powered by Zimperium’, an application for iPhone users. SoftBank also plans to propose additional security services to enterprise customers in the future.

Zimperium's mobile security services incorporate a AI-powered threat detection engine built to detect both known and unknown threats. The company offers products for enterprises and end-users, including security services for smartphones, security-conscious software development kits for fintech apps and other categories, and tools for companies to collectively manage the security of multiple devices.

The ‘Security Checker powered by Zimperium’ product incorporates Zimperium's AI-powered threat detection engine and notifies customers of threats, such as the remote chance of accessing unauthorized Wi-Fi access points disguised as safe public Wi-Fi and dangers affecting smartphones.

The product will be available for SoftBank customers who subscribe to the ‘iPhone Basic Pack’ (monthly charge of JPY 500 excluding tax). All customers in Japan with compatible devices can use the stand-alone version of the application for a monthly fee of JPY 350 (tax included) by purchasing via the AppStore.
