Sonus launches IPX system for fixed, mobile networks

Sonus Networks has launched an IP Packet Exchange (IPX) system for fixed and mobile networks. The Sonus system supports IPX features defined by industry organisations such as i3Forum and GSMA, along with session-aware value-added features that Sonus has defined. These features fall into three categories of signaling interworking, media transcoding and centralised routing and policy. This system uses the common software base of Sonus' NBS9000 and NBS5200 session border controllers, which form its core. The NBS products are complemented by the Sonus Network Analytics Suite, which monitors the customer's quality of experience, and the PSX Centralized Routing and Policy Server that supports intelligent policy-based routing. Sonus' NBS family of session border controllers provide session control, media transcoding and security for both legacy networks in transition and the pure IP communications. Both the NBS5200 and NBS9000 have received Performance Verified Certification from Miercom Labs to deliver performance under adverse conditions. The service-aware IPX service will play a role in enabling roaming. Similarly, in fixed networks, the migration from TDM to IP will increase the need for service-aware IPX capacity. The Sonus IPX system delivers functionality such as security, QoS control, SLA-based call admission control, and CDR generation. Additional IPX features supported include a range of signaling interworking, wireline, wireless, and HD media transcoding, 3GPP standards conformance, IPV4/IPV6 transport and services interworking, overload handling and enhanced routing. The Sonus system allows IPX Providers to offer ENUM services.
