T-Mobile NL facing reorganisation, no forced redundancies

T-Mobile Netherlands is planning on cutting workforce numbers. The company could be looking to eliminate one quarter of its 1900 Dutch workers, prompted by lower sales and profit, Het Financieele Dagblad reported. There is no concrete plan yet for a reorganisation or job cutting programme, sources within T-Mobile NL informed Telecompaper. The sources said they had not heard of the numbers indicated in Het Financieele Dagblad. There are changes underway, but the sources said the redundancies will happen via natural attrition although other alternatives could not completely be ruled out. Staff reduction will take place mainly among temps and contractors, a total of 400-450 in addition to its own 1,900 employees. The reduction will be achieved via staff turnover, and by hiring fewer temporary employees. Consultants bureau Roland Berger began an investigation at the operator early this year, presenting his conclusions and recommendations in April and May. According to the consultants, T-Mobile NL must become "faster and more flexible" in order to face changes in the market such as MTA adjustments. T-Mobile had slightly higher MTA rates than KPN and Vodafone Netherlands. The report also stressed that costs must be lowered.
