Telefonica, unions reach 'historic' employment deal

Telefonica has reached a joint deal with Spanish trade unions for the period 2015-2017 encompassing all three of the company’s units in Spain – Telefonica de Espana, Telefonica Moviles and Telefonica Soluciones – that affects a total of around 26,000 of its employees. The deal was described as “historic” by the parties involved in that all three units will be governed by a single employment framework for the first time, giving the company a greater level of flexibility and its workers "the guarantees, stability and tranquillity" to face future challenges, according to the unions.

Among the most important clauses of the new agreement are the right to take up voluntary redundancy from the age of 53 and a guaranteed wage increase of 4 percent plus bonuses amounting to EUR 1,000 over the next three years.
