Telia launches mobile TV, VoD service
Swedish operator Telia will offer its customers a TV and movie service for smartphones and tablets as of 18 December. Named Telia Play +, the service can be purchased either as a supplement to Telia's IPTV service or as a standalone service. On top of a television package with over 30 channels, Telia Play + initially offers a video store with over 2,500 movies. Telia Play + is visually similar to Telia's IPTV service, although its content is not identical to the IPTV offer. Telia offers two Telia Play + packages, namely 'Play+ Stor' and 'Play+ Barn'. A third package, 'Play + HBO', will soon be launched as well. The service is being launched on iOS initially, but will also become available for Android in January 2013.

Telia grows mobile revenues 5.1% in Q4

Telia reported mobile revenues up 5.1 percent in the fourth quarter to SEK 4.62 billion, helped by accelerating growth and higher ARPU in the consumer segment. The Swedish operator said trends within the corporate segment also stabilized somewhat during the quarter, and equipment sales jumped 20 percent from a year ago, thanks to new handset models. Telia Sweden says on-demand TV viewing up 60% in 2012

Telia Sweden customers started playing 51 million TV programmes or films using its on demand service in 2012, up nearly 60 percent compared with 2011. It said 61 percent of its roughly 500,000 TV service customers used some form of on demand service in December 2012, up from 53 percent in the same month of 2011. This is a 15 percent increase in one year. Andreas Bratt, who is responsible for on-demand output, said the public can now take charge of its viewing and watch what and when it wants.

Telia signs deals with 3 marketing agencies

Telia says it has signed up Spinn Action Marketing, Ottoboni/Done Production and Smicker to boost its marketing, especially in the digital domain. It said by focusing on fewer agencies, Telia can give a more integrated picture of its brand. Telia will also expand its editorial cooperation with Spoon. DDB remains Telia's main agent.

Multiplatform video services company Avail-TVN has announced the launch of its new movie Subscription VOD (SVOD) service, ViewNow. Telia adds HBO to TV offering

Swedish operator Telia has launched the new HBO service as part of its TV offering. This means that Telia's almost 500,000 TV customers can watch new episodes of the channel's popular series subtitled in Swedish within one day of the original broadcast. The price for HBO will be SEK 79 per month, and customers can watch it on TV as well as on computer, phones and tablets. On TV, it will also be available in HD quality.
