Telmex fined nearly USD 6 million in Colombia

Colombia's Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has fined America Movil’s unit Telmex COP 10.7 billion (approximately USD 5.9 million) for enforcing minimum contract tie-in period clauses in pay-TV service subscription contracts.

The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce said that the operator charged subscribers who decided to change service providers between 1 January 2009 and 1 October 2010, a procedure forbidden by Colombia's national television regulator Comision Nacional de Television (Cntv). Telmex will also have to reimburse nearly COP 1.6 billion to 9,135 subscribers affected by the contract tie-in period clause in the above mentioned period.
