Following these auctions, the existing second-generation services on 1,800MHz of TrueMove and Digital Phone (DPC) will be officially shut down on 18 November, and the 2G service on 900MHz of Advanced Info Service (AIS) will also close on 19 November. Their spectrum bandwidth will be transferred to winners of the November tenders.
The NBTC plans to approve the results of the bidding process for 1,800MHz licenses on 18 November, and the 900MHz results the following day, Tantasith also said. The auctions of the 1,800MHz and 900MHz licenses are expected to generate over THB 73 billion in upfront license fee payments for the state.
Thailand’s Telecom Committee has also announced the four companies that pre-qualified for the 1,800MHz tenders. These are AIS's Advanced Wireless Network, Dtac TriNet Network, a unit of Total Access Communication, True Move H Universal Communication, and Jasmine International's Jas Mobile unit.
These four companies that pre-qualified to bid for 1,800MHz licenses are also expected to bid for 900MHz licenses. Operators can submit the required documentation for participation in the 900MHz auction until 22 October.
