Tiscali, Huawei to roll out Italian LTE-TDD network

Italian operator Tiscali and Huawei have signed a non-binding term sheet at Mobile World Congress to partner in the rollout of an ultrabroadband network offering speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The companies said the aim is to install over 1,250 base stations offering LTE-TDD (Long-Term Evolution Time-Division Duplex) technology in the 3.5GHz frequency. The rollout is expected to start in Q3 2016 and last around three years. Under the terms of the prospective deal, Huawei will provide core and radio access network equipment and CPE to create a TDD 4.5G WTTx (wireless fibre to the X) network capable of providing multimedia broadband services at a peak connecting rate of up to 1Gbps.

The parties have committed to proceeding with negotiations with a view to signing a binding contract including financing from a third party.
