Triatel funding for rural internet to run out in May 2013

Rural areas in Latvia risk losing their internet access from May 2013, when European funding for wireless operator Triatel ends, reports Db.lv. Once the development funding runs out, the operator will not be required to maintain base stations in areas where services are unprofitable. Triatel is deploying a CDMA EVDO Rev B2 network, at an investment cost of around USD 4 milion. Triatel said it would continue the network if the EU allocates additional funding for maintenance.
