UK govt sets up fund to deal with 4G network TV interference
Tuesday 21 February 2012 | 17:14 CET |
News
The UK Government has announced a GBP 180 million scheme to fund solutions to TV signal interference which could be caused by next-generation 4G mobile networks. Some households will experience interference to their digital terrestrial TV, or Freeview, reception when 4G is introduced from 2013. Affected households will be provided with solutions through a help scheme that will be funded and run by mobile operators. Most houses will simply need to fit their TV with a filter that will be supplied by the help scheme, with extra support to fit them available to the over-75s and people who are registered disabled. A number of households may need to change platform, and this will be funded by the help scheme. For a small number of homes, the provision of filters or shifting to another platform will not solve the interference. In these cases, up to GBP 10,000 per household will be used to find a solution.
