Unions ask Arcep to investigate Free Mobile over coverage

Thursday 26 January 2012 | 10:02 CET | News
French unions CFE-CGC and UNSA's branches at operators Orange, SFR and Bouygues have asked telecom regulator Arcep to open a procedure to assess whether Free Mobile is meeting its licence obligations and to sanction it if necessary. The unions claim that Free Mobile has reduced its network coverage, which theoretically met the minimum requirement of covering 27 percent of the population, but was not large enough for commercial use. The claim Free Mobile turned down or switched off its equipment soon after launch so that its traffic would use the network of roaming partner Orange.
