Virgin Media plans to start testing internet speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps in east London across its cable network. The tests will commence in April in partnership with four companies in the vicinity of Old Street in London, dubbed the 'Silicon Roundabout' due to the number of ICT start-ups in the area. The service will provide download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 150 Mbps. If successful, it will be the fastest cable internet speed worldwide, the company claims, with similar technology trials already having proved the capability of cable to deliver 1 Gbps download speeds. Each of the companies in the trial works in the creative industries.
