Vodafone may acquire mobile carrier in Brazil - report
Vodafone is considering acquiring a mobile operator in Brazil, O Estado de S Paulo writes. The country's top three players in the mobile segment are Telefonica's Vivo, America Movil's Claro and Telecom Italia's TIM. According to the report, TIM may be the telco targeted by Vodafone. Vodafone already operates in Brazil in the corporate and machine-to-machine (M2M) segments. These services are provided through an agreement with Brazilian telecommunications services firm Datora. The Brazilian newspaper affirmed it had access to a document about a meeting between Brazilian authorities and Vodafone officials at the Brazilian embassy in London on 31 July. In that document, Vodafone officials allegedly affirmed that the company was not interested in entering the mobile market in Brazil through the acquisition of spectrum in the upcoming 700MHz auction but confirmed their interest in acquiring a mobile operator.
