Wataniya to bid for 3G licence in Algeria
Mobile operator Wataniya Telecom Algerie (Nedjma) will bid for the North African country's 3G licence at a tender planned for early 2012, reports Bloomberg citing CEO Joseph Ged. Nedjma is committed to increasing investments to fulfill all the licence obligations as would be set and decided by the Algerian government, said Ged. Algeria's Post and Telecommunications Minister Moussa Benhamadi last week said that the tender specifications will be available by mid-September.

Despite recent delays, Algeria will licence 3G operators before the end of the year, Algerian ICT minister Moussa Benhamadi told La Tribune newspaper. Algeria invited bids from operators for the country's first 3G licences in the middle of September. Bids were initially due on 7 October, with winners set to have been announced on 23 October. Nedjma kicks-off six-month national retail drive

Algerian mobile operator Nedjma has begun a six-month retail drive that will reach many counties across the country's four regions. The first phase of the campaign launched on 12 September in the western Wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou. Watanyia Telecom Algeria (Nedjma) has launched Gmail SMS in partnership with Google, allowing its customers with a Gmail account to send SMS free of charge to other Nedjma mobile numbers.
