Yahoo! confirms PayPal's Thompson as new CEO

News
Yahoo! has confirmed Scott Thompson as its new CEO. Thompson comes from eBay, where he was president of PayPal. He will take up the new job on 09 January, and interim CEO Time Morse will return to his previous position as CFO. Yahoo! said Thompson will work closely with the board of directors on the company's ongoing strategic review. The company confirmed that it's still considering a "wide range of opportunities", including specific investments or asset sales. Recent reports have suggested that private equity firms as well as the company's Asian partners are interested in buying part of all of Yahoo!'s operations. Yahoo! has been without a CEO since Carol Bartz was sacked last September. Her departure also sparked off the strategic review, after she failed to turn around the company's fortunes. Shareholders have also been calling for a change in strategy at Yahoo!.
