Zain abandons merger with Paltel

Middle East and African mobile company Zain Group has confirmed that the merger agreement between Zain and Palestinian Telecommunications (PalTel) announced earlier in 2009 will not proceed. Zain Group's chief communications officer Ibrahim Adel said that Zain had not received the required government approvals that were conditions to completing the deal.
