ZICTA signs deal to set up computer assembly plant
The Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone has signed a lease agreement with the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) to set up a computer assembly plant. Lusaka South Economic Zone MD Fortune Kamusaki said the USD 75 million plant will create over 1,000 jobs when completed, ZNBC reported. The development will reduce the cost of importing computers and laptops from outside the country and create employment for over 1,000 people specialising in providing ICT services and others.

Zambian govt invests in power for PC plant, data centre

The Zambian government has commissioned the construction of two renewable power station plants valued at USD 1.2 billion to supply the country's highly anticipated PC assembly plant and data centre. The project, which will lead to the production of a combined 100 megawatts of power by the end of the year, is being funded by the World Bank and is the first project of its kind in Africa under the financial institution's scaling up solar programme, ITWeb reported.

ZICTA acquires land for computer assembly plant

The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has acquired land at the Multi-Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) in Lusaka South for the construction of a computer assembly plant. ZICTA public relations manager Ngabo Nankonde told the Daily Nation that the authority was on course to complete the assembly plant by 2017, as scheduled for the authority to begin assembling computers locally.
