ZTE unveils 4K-enabled Android TV STB

ZTE will unveil its 4K-capable Android TV set-top-box, dubbed ‘ZXV10 B860H’ at Broadband World Forum 2016. The ZXV10 B860H is integrated with a smart 4K TV ecosystem to allow users to access 4K TVs. B860H is an UHD STB configured with a quad-core single on chip (SoC) unit to support 4K x 2K@60fps HD hardware decoding, 10-bit color format, HDR10 and HLG HDR.

Using Google's Android TV OS, B860H allows Android applications to be run on Java virtual machine (JVM) and is fully integrated with ZTE's smart home services such as multi-screen, HD video call, family album, home IoT network and voice assistant. The B860H product is equipped with an Amlogic 64-bit processor, 8GB Flash and 2GB RAM. It also provides an HDMI 2.0a audio/video interface, and supports 802.11AC 2*2 Wi-Fi wireless, RJ-45 10/100M Ethernet access as well as Bluetooth 4.1 to allow Bluetooth remote and D-PAD connection.

iWedia, Amlogic to deliver platform for Android TV STBs

iWedia joined forces with Amlogic to deliver a combined software and hardware platform for Android TV STBs. The combined platform consists of iWedia Teatro-3.5 software platform for Android TV STB ported on top of Amlogic S905D STB SoC. The announcement was made to coincide with the opening of BroadcastAsia2017, which is being held in Singapore from 23 May through to 25 May. iWedia has a suite at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel where it demonstrates the integrated platform.

Samsung, Amazon Video release HDR10+ standard

Samsung Electronics and Amazon Video announced the introduction of HDR10+, an update to the HDR10 open standard. HDR10+ incorporates dynamic metadata that allows a high dynamic range (HDR) TV to adjust brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis. All of Samsung's 2017 UHD TVs, including its premium QLED TV lineup, support HDR10+. In the second half of this year, Samsung's 2016 UHD TVs will gain HDR10+ support through a firmware update.

ZTE shows VR video delivery platform at MWC

ZTE announced the official release of its end-to-end virtual reality live solution at Mobile World Congress. The platform offers support for VR content capture, elastic networks, a premium video platform, VR software development kits and set-top boxes. ZTE continues revenue growth in Q3 at over 4%

ZTE reported operating revenue of CNY 71.564 billion for the first nine months of 2016, up 4.4 percent from a year earlier. While the company did not release Q3 figures, the result suggests business was in line with H1 2016, when revenues rose 4.05 percent. ZTE said revenue growth was primarily from 4G network and optical transmission products in the domestic and international markets, as well as its expansion in smartphones in China. Net profit amounted to CNY 2.859 billion, up 9.78 percent year-on-year.
