In the summer of 2011 the BBC launched the global BBC iPlayer for viewers outside the UK. Is the BBC starting a revolution by offering its content directly to the end user, without the traditional intermediary of a channel or TV service provider? In the Telecompaper Consumer Panel we asked more than 2,500 consumers how likely they would be to buy content directly from the producer/broadcaster, and around a third said they would consider this. However, the majority of those said they would only consider it, not giving a definite yes. When we asked those interested what they would pay for the content of seven different providers of TV, films and series, most answered that they would not like to pay anything. Around 20 percent said they would pay EUR 5 per month.
