ARTP hosts ITU forum on standardisation in Africa
Senegalese telecom regulator ARTP is hosting an ITU regional forum on standardisation in Africa on 24-25 March in Dakar. The forum will address good practice on adopting global standards in developing countries, strengthening emerging economies' capacity to adapt to new norms, and facilitating the creation of national standards bodies to coordinate their participation in ITU-T working groups. ITU launches first African IPv6 test bed in Cote d'Ivoire

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is partnering with Ivorian telecoms watchdog L'Autorite de Regulation des Telecommunications de Cote d'Ivoire (ARTCI) for the implementation of an IPv6 test bed. This allows engineers to undertake IPv6 networks simulations, to verify the quality of service and interoperability in different environments. before deployment in corporate networks, CommunicationsWeek reported.

ITU allows 30 African nations to delay digital TV migration

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has allowed 30 African countries to extend their digital migration beyond the June 2015 global deadline. According to the Daily Nation, countries that have been granted an extension include the technologically advanced North African giants Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt. This revelation contradicts a key argument by Francis Wangusi, director-general of the Communications Authority (CA), that Kenya must migrate by June or would attract sanctions.
