Claro slapped with record USD 45 mln fine in Colombia

Colombian antitrust agency the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has fined America Movil's local unit Claro COP 87.8 billion (approximately USD 45.2 million) for abusing its dominant position on the mobile market and practices that affected free competition.

According to SIC, Claro incurred in practices that affected figures related to the number portability service. The watchdog found that Claro blocked mobile phone frequencies, a process that delayed the completion of the number porting beyond the legal period.

Claro plans to appeal the fine, Portafolio reports.
