Cnil lists Famicity, others for good personal data practice

Tuesday 11 September 2012 | 10:21 CET | News
French data protection agency Cnil has named social network Famicity as an example of social networks that have applied the rules agreed in June 2009 by the G29 group of European data protection agencies. Good practice recommended by the G29 include defining default parameters to limit the diffusion of internet users' data, protection measures for minors, eliminating accounts that have been inactive for a long time, suggesting that users use a pseudonym, and offering a tool on the home page allowing members and non members to make complaints related to personal data. Cnil states that most of these rules are not always respected. The Diaspora social network is also cited for using several techniques to guarantee users' ability to control their personal data. Mondokiddo, Mini Reseau, Univers de Wilby and Yoocasa are listed as providing strong protection for minors.
