Czech media legislation to be amended for digital radio

Czech regulator CTU's Council discussed the comments received in the public consultation on the draft rules to award frequencies for digital radio in the band 174−230 MHz. CTU received comments by six entities. CTU's conclusion was that like with DVB-T, the current media legislation does not meet the requirements of the future digital broadcasting platform. Nobody questioned the proposed intention to reserve frequencies for a future multiplex of Czech Radio. CTU expects that the tender for a national multiplex could start in the first quarter of 2014, and tenders for the other awards could run during 2014. It is necessary to amend current legislation on the new requirements. In addition, the CTU said that it organized a workshop on draft rules for data operation management, with participation of providers and data network operators as well as experts from the public sector.
