Monday 26 January 2004 | 00:00 CET | News
Hutchison Telecommunications will invest ADlr39 mil in upgrading part of its Orange CDMA network to the 1xRTT data standard. The company has awarded a ADlr30 mil upgrade contract for Sydney and Melbourne, both Australia, to Samsung, incumbent network vendor. The process is expected to be mainly completed by April 2004 or May 2004. Hutchison has not revealed when it will launch new services on the network. The company added that it could upgrade its entire Orange CDMA network by start-2006 if there is sufficient demand. Separately, Hutchison has launched its Videotalk phone-to-PC video conferencing service on its 3 network via Microsoft NetMeeting software. The service is supported by the NEC606 and NEC808 handsets, and also by the Motorola A920 phone, with a software upgrade.
